Honeywell ModRAE™ – Modular Portable Gas Detection Platform

Many sites rely on several instruments to find unknown hazards, measure specific compounds and meet compliance requirements. Honeywell ModRAE replaces that mix with one configurable platform. Its cartridge-based design lets you change what the instrument detects in the field, in seconds, without replacing the whole device.

One instrument, many applications
ModRAE uses photoionisation detection (PID). It covers general screening of unknown atmospheres and total VOC measurement, and guided workflows support compound-specific tasks such as benzene measurement. Typical applications include:

• Industrial hygiene and worker exposure monitoring
• Hazmat and emergency response
• Confined space entry
• Leak detection
• Soil remediation
• Fumigation and re-entry checks
• Perimeter and area monitoring

Smart, swappable cartridges
Each cartridge contains its own sensing components and SensorRAE technology. A coin cell keeps the sensors biased while a cartridge is out of the instrument, so cartridges can be stored, transported, calibrated or serviced independently and still be ready to use. The quick-release slide-and-lock design lets users change cartridges at the point of use with minimal downtime.

Two working modes

• Health Mode: continuous monitoring with TWA and STEL exposure metrics
• Safety Mode: targeted investigation, with real-time graphing and object measurement for consistent, repeatable sampling

Clear, decision-ready interface
A 3.5" high-visibility colour display with colour-coded alerts helps users read gas conditions quickly. Guided workflows reduce variability between operators. Alarms combine a 95 dB buzzer, six LEDs and dual vibration motors. Built-in man-down and SOS (panic) alarms add lone-worker protection.

Connected when you need it
Bluetooth Low Energy and NFC come as standard. Optional field-fitted LoRa or cellular (4G) modules, both with GNSS positioning, enable real-time remote monitoring. ModRAE integrates with Honeywell Safety Suite 2.0 for centralised device management and data visibility.

• ATEX/IECEx certified: Ex ia IIC T4 Ga (Zone 0)
• IP66 and IP68 ingress protection
• Operating temperature: −20°C to +60°C
• Over 12 hours of battery runtime, even in a worst-case configuration
• Built-in pump (300 cc/min) with flow monitoring, blockage alarm and sampling up to 45 m
• Datalog storage of up to 180 days at a 60-second interval
